LIEUTENANT Governor of Key Club and Triple C School senior. Kadi
Merren, was recognised recently at the 66th annual District Convention
held in Orlando, Florida as a "Leader of Leaders" among 32 Florida Key
Club Lieutenant Governors. Kadi commented:
"One of my main goals at the beginning of the year was to be recognised
at Convention.
"In the past the Cayman Key Clubs were not given very much visibility or
recognition.
"This year our clubs worked hard and received the recognition they
deserved. I'm so excited that we had such a great year."
Ms Merren attended the convention with 40 fellow Key Club members and
seven advisors, all representing Grand Cayman. Active Key Clubs
included John Gray, George Hicks, Triple C, St Ignatius, and Cayman
Prep High schools.
Kadi was also handed the James Harris Distinguished Lieutenant Gov-
ernor award, which is only given to five of the 32 Lieutenant Governors
within the district. She was also very excited to have been invited to St
Louis, Missouri, to accept the Robert F Lucas Award, which will be given
at the International Convention in July, 2004.
"Kadi was recognised last year as Female Achiever of the Year for Junior
Achievement," commented Triple C School Director, Marjorie Ebanks. "I'm
not surprised at her continued success with Key Club."
During the convention, she was thrilled to be asked to introduce the
Governor of the Florida Key Club, Mo Coffey, at the opening ceremonies.
She was also awarded with a "Super Hero" trophy for her service as
Lieutenant Governor.
Triple C Key Club advisor, Debbie Edwards, commented: "It's so great to
be among such nice students who are so highly-motivated and work hard
to succeed.
"Working with Kadi and the other students was a rewarding and pleasant
experience."
Part of her role as Lieutenant Governor this year, was to co-ordinate
activities and lead Key Club members from all five clubs in Cayman.
This year. Kadi saw the need for a Key Club at Cayman Prep and was
instrumental in chartering the club and training 33 new members.
Other highlights from her year of service included arranging to have an
Officer Training Conference with speaker, Lieutenant Governor Bob
Andreason of Kiwanis' from Florida Division 25.
She also organised the Spring Regional Rally where the new 2004-2005
Lieutenant Governor, Kellie McGee was elected in Grand Cayman and
also held a Governor's Project Day where free booths, activities, games,
food and prizes were enjoyed by up to 100 kids
.
